Club Playing Rules and Procedures

The Committee intends that Members shall enjoy their bridge in a harmonious and respectful atmosphere, supported by the observance of the following Club Rules:-

 

1.  The club has adopted the EBU's Best Behaviour at Bridge This code requires players to behave in a friendly way, to be a good host or guest at the table at all times and to refrain from  disputes or arguments with the director.

2. The Club is ‘non-smoking’; smoking is not allowed anywhere within Bawburgh Village Hall.

3. All players shall be at their table, ready to play, 10 minutes before the due start time for every event.

4. All players shall avoid loud discussion of hands and/or results during an event.

5. All Members shall pay their annual subscription, due on 1st April, by the end of May. Failure to do so will cause their membership to lapse.

6. Visitors are welcome at club meetings when there is capacity. Information on the meetings which are accessible to visitors is made available from time to time through member publicity and on the club's website.  Visitors are obliged to apply for membership if they wish to continue to play,  having visited the club three times.

7. It is a condition of membership that Members agree to limited personal details being held on the Club's computer system, to facilitate the administration of the Club and scoring of events.

8. All play at the Club shall be in accordance with the Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge, with which Members should be familiar. Member's attention is particularly drawn to the following requirements:-

     a. To behave in a courteous manner towards both their partner and opponents and to observe the highest standards
          of bridge etiquette. (Law 74) 

     b. To ensure the proper procedures for play and scoring particularly when sitting in the ‘North position.

9. The club adheres to the EBU's playing regulations as defined in the Orange Book.  Conventions up to level 4 are permitted.

     a. Partnerships should provide two identical convention cards, preferably on one of the EBU forms or on the
         front of the Score Card.

         In the absence of convention cards, players should make their bidding system known to their opponents. The
          following systems are accepted at BBC  as being generally understood: -   ACOL,   Benji ACOL and 5 Card
           Major.   Convention Cards which indicate the standard parts of these bidding systems are available on the club's
            website or in printed form from the Competition Secretary for members who have no email connection.

    b.  Convention cards are mandatory for all other bidding systems when playing at the club.

    c.  In the absence of a convention card or a disclosure of the system, directors and opponents are entitled to
           assume that partnerships are playing Foundation ACOL.
