1. All-Day Bridge
The recent Bridge Day, especially the catering and Janet’s ‘Halloween’
display, was commented upon very favourably by so many who attended.
Dates for next year’s All-Day events are:
18th February; 3rd June; 2nd September; 28th October 2010
– put these in your diary!
2. Christmas Parties.
The ‘Celebratory Club Pairs will be on
Wednesday 16th and
Thursday 17th December
The usual rule is that
members may play on only one of these dates, but this year we are making both
days available to those who regularly play on both Wednesdays and
Thursdays. If you usually play
on only one of the days each week we ask that you put yourself down for just
that day. IF we find ourselves
overbooked, we may have to ask those who are down for both days to withdraw from
one of them.
There will be no table money
to pay, but we expect ALL members who play to bring some ‘FINGER FOOD’ (no
utensils required) for their party day.
We politely request that you do not, if possible, bring just Supermarket
mince pies or similar.
The Club will provide ‘bubbly’ as well as the usual array of drinks.
Lists will be on the
noticeboard from this week on which you can sign up for the Parties and indicate
briefly what sort of finger food you will be contributing.
3. Date error in Handbook
Under ‘2010 Thursday Event variations’
Jan 8 should read Jan 7.
Sorry.
4. Visitors and ‘Find a Partner’
We said in the last Newsletter that whilst visitors (with a member or two
visitors playing together) are welcome on Wednesdays, it is still the rule that
Thursdays are ‘members only’.
However, Committee has agreed that
visitors playing with a member will be
allowed on a Thursday but only by prior arrangement with a Committee member.
Visitors may play up to three times in a year, after which they will be expected
apply for membership.
If
you have no partner for a Thursday (or, indeed, a Wednesday) please phone Jan
Hubbard on 01603 742933 as she often knows of people who are looking for a
partner – this can often be arranged at very short notice.
5. Events at the Club
As
some members are aware there has been an incident involving a club member.
The Committee has received a circular letter and other anonymous correspondence,
much of which is inaccurate, and this is not useful or helpful.
Committee feels that Bawburgh is still a friendly and welcoming club and we wish
it to continue in the same way.
