Constitution & Rules

Constitution

Name. The Club shall be called THE BAWBURGH BRIDGE CLUB (“BBC”).

 

Objectives. The Club shall provide facilities to its members for the playing of  Duplicate Contract Bridge.     

     

Location. The headquarters of the Club shall be situated at Bawburgh Village Hall.

 

Affiliations. The Club shall be affiliated to the Norfolk Contract Bridge Association (N.C.B.A.) and the English Bridge Union (E.B.U.).

 

Membership. Membership shall be open to all bridge players familiar with the playing of Duplicate Bridge who observe the Club Rules.

 

Officers. The Officers of the Club shall be the Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and Membership Secretary.

 

Management. The affairs of the Club shall be managed by the Committee who shall have the power to determine all issues in the best interests of the Club.

 

Finance. Annual Subscriptions and table fees shall be determined by the Committee from time to time. The Club shall be non-profit making and any accumulated funds shall be used to further the objectives of the Club. No Officer or Committee member shall at any time benefit personally from Club funds.

 

Review. The Club year shall run from 1st April to end March.  Each year, by the end of April, the Committee shall publish to members a review of the Club’s affairs and activities during the preceding 12 months including details of financial matters.

 

Data Protection. The Committee shall comply with the requirements of the Data Protection Act insofar as it applies to the holding of Member’s data for the administration of the Club and the scoring of events.

 

Club Rules. The Committee shall publish the Club Rules to Members. Compliance with these rules shall be a condition of membership.

 

Winding-Up. On winding-up of the Club any surplus assets shall be disposed of at the sole discretion of the Committee.

 

Rules

 

 The Committee intends that Members shall enjoy their bridge in a harmonious and respectful atmosphere supported by the observance of the following Club Rules:-

 

1. The Club is ‘non-smoking’; smoking is not allowed anywhere within Bawburgh Village Hall.


2.  All players shall be at their table, ready to play, 5 minutes before the due start time for every event.

 
3. All players shall avoid loud discussion of hands and/or results during an event.


4. All Members shall pay their annual subscription, due on 1st April, by the end of June. Failure to do so will terminate their membership.


5.  Visitors may play at the club a maximum of three times in any calendar year. Prior to playing a fourth time they must submit an application for Membership.


6.  In some instances, determined by the Committee, Visitors will not be allowed at Special Events.


7. It is a condition of membership that Members agree to limited personal details being held on the Club’s computer system to facilitate the administration of the Club and scoring of events.


8. All play at the Club shall be in accordance with the Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge with which Members should be familiar. Member’s attention is particularly drawn to the following requirements:-

 

 a. To behave in a courteous manner towards both their partner and opponents and to observe the highest standards of bridge etiquette. (Law 74)

 

b. To provide, with partner, two identical Convention Cards, for use by opponents, at every event. (Law 40)

 

c. To ensure the proper procedures for play and scoring particularly when sitting in the ‘North’ position.
