Arrangements for Play
Bawburgh Bridge Club provides daytime duplicate bridge for club-standard bridge players. We play at Bawburgh Village hall, which is amply-heated, well-lit and has a capacious car park. There is no smoking anywhere in the village hall The playing venue is very convenient, being just off the city by-pass on the Watton road (See the Map Web Page).
We play on Wednesdays and Thursdays usually at 1.45 pm. Afternoon sessions comprise 24 rounds. On about 4 Thursdays per annum we provide bridge days, which comprise about 36 rounds of bridge either side of a nice lunch, together with morning coffee and afternoon tea commencing at 11 am. Click on Program and Results to check the nature of the current week's fixture.
The table money for afternoon sessions is £2.00 for members and £3.00 for visitors This covers light refreshments - tea coffee, soft drinks and biscuits - available throughout the playing session. Fees for Bridge Days are announced individually.
The club is affiliated to the E.B.U and N.C.B. For E.B.U members, whether club members or not, local MP's are automatically transferred to the E.B.U monthly. Paper certificates are not normally printed for non-EBU members. Pre-dealt hands are used for all our events. The hand listings which we provided contain the Deep Finess analysis of makeable contracts.
Membership
Bridge Days and one or two other high days in the club calendar are for members only. Member-only events are identified by an asterisk in the club Program. The club's competitions are only open to club members. A web page describing them is accessible by clicking on 'Competions' in the navigation bar on the left.
Guests are welcome to play without standing in the club's competitions on Wednesdays, where the event is not asterisked. When guests have played three times at the club they are obliged to apply for membership before playing again.
The membership fee for the club is £8.00 for a full year and £4 for those joining in the second half of the year. The web site includes an application form which should be forwarded on completion to the Membership Secretary. (See the Contacts Web Page) Members receive an annual membership booklet and copies of the Annual Review which provides a comprehensive report on progress, plans and the financial status of the club.
Member subscriptions are due on 1st April. To achieve continuous membership they must be paid at the latest by June 1st. Members renewing after this date are treated as new members and require re-election by the committee. Participation in club competitions commences on the date of election for the current year.
As with most Bridge clubs, the administration of membership records, scoring and communications with members are more or less completely mechanised. We have provided a web page describing our policies with regard to the Data Protection act and consent to these policies is a condition of membership.
